A brand campaign for Alpin Arena Schnals, a ski resort in South Tyrol’s Schnalstal valley.

The project included a full-length commercial for the resort’s website and events, a 24-second cinema spot, and shorter social-media cut-downs. The central film, “THE RACE,” stages a playful showdown between a skier and a snowboarder - sparked by two siblings debating which is better - and ends in a draw, with a light, humorous twist.

Produced by the creative collective Visual Minds, the campaign was shot over two days at around 3,000 m above sea level across the resort’s slopes. Working with a minimal crew allowed fast, flexible responses to rapidly changing weather, limited oxygen, and tight shooting windows with only a few runs available on each slope.

I worked as camera operator for the skiing shots and contributed to concept development and production. Marco Telfser led the project and handled concept, editing, and camera; Peter Praxmarer contributed concept, camera, and lighting; Robin Diana was sound engineer. The on-screen athletes are Matthias and Jakob Weger.

cinema version.

This cut was created specifically for pre-show advertising in local cinemas. It strips the narrative down to its most dynamic moments: the start of the race, a few high-speed passes and close calls, and the shared finish.

The edit leans heavily on rhythm and music rather than dialogue, using quick cuts and wide mountain shots to read clearly on a big screen. Colour and contrast were pushed slightly to hold up in a dark cinema environment and to reinforce the energetic, competitive feel of the spot.

The spot ran in cinemas across South Tyrol and neighbouring regions during the 2022/23 winter season, primarily in the months leading up to and during the peak ski period.
